Tourism in Palghar

Palghar happens to be a big town in the Maharashtra. It houses many industrial townships which boast a plethora of small scale businesses like pharmaceutical, engineering, notebook industries, plastics and textile industries.

Kelva Dam
This dam was used for irrigation purpose earlier which has now become a very popular attraction in Palghar due to a gorgeous garden located close to the dam. This garden also serves as an ideal picnic spot for the visitors. 

Waghoba
Waghoba Mountain is the most sought-after attraction in Palghar. The best time to visit this place is during the monsoon season. Here one can take pleasure in a number of small waterfalls. The name “Waghoba” originates from the word “Wagh” which means tiger. There was a time when people used to see a tiger a couple of times in this region and thus they called this mountain Waghoba which means the mountain which belongs to the tiger.

Kelva Fort
This is an ancient fort of Palghar which dates back to the sixteenth century. This place is one of the most preferred attractions of Palghar. The Kelva Fort is bounded by beautiful greenery which comprise Suru trees. This fort was constructed by Portuguese. The history also says that the great Maratha emperor-Shivaji also used this fort for protection. The fort remains open for the visitors from morning 8 AM till evening 8 PM daily. Thousands of tourists flock this fort throughout the year. 

Kelva Beach


This famous beach of Palghar occupies a large area of more than 8 kms. The beach is surrounded by Suru trees. One can behold the beauty of this beach during dawn or dusk. The Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport of Mumbai is very close to the Kelva beach.

Shirgaon Beach

This beach has a breathtaking view which attracts a myriad of visitors to this place. The beach is bounded by enchanting palm trees and it also provides shelter to the fishermen. This is a perfect place to chill out at the seashore and enjoy the waters of the Arabian Sea. An immense flow of tourists can be seen at this beach nowadays. 

Shirgaon Fort


This is another famous place that is a must-visit in Palghar. The fort is located near the Shirgaon beach. At present one can see only the ruins of this fort. There are evidences that were found inside and around the monument which clearly indicate that the great Maratha ruler Shivaji resided in it once upon a time. The fort also houses a farm of green palm trees which is an excellent eye-soother for the tourists visiting the fort.   

Ram Temple
This old temple is dedicated to Lord Rama and is situated near the Sitladevi temple. As per some legends Ahiravan and Mahiravan had put Lord Rama and Laxmana in prison at this very place. Later Hanuman had saved them from their clutches and since then this place became a very pious place as per the Hindus. In 1994 the Ram temple was renovated. Every year on the eve of Ram Navami a plethora of devotees congregate at this place to worship Lord Rama. Artis and poojas are performed every Thursdays as well as on Saturdays.                         

Manor

This is a very popular tourist attraction of Palghar. Manor is also famous as the “Gateway to the Palghar Town”. This serene town is an ideal gateway which takes you away from the noisy and busy city life. The main allure of Manor is the “Silent Hill Resort”. This resort also features a water park. Manor is mainly popular for its earthenware stuff which are manufactured here in abundance.
